His hometown is Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he takes great pride in his alma mater, Booker T. Washington High School. After graduating, he worked for the Missouri chapter of a civil rights organization, the Council on American-Islamic Relations. Simultaneously, he led a collaboration of St. Louis institutions to bring Missouri’s first drug recycling program to St. Louis, but was stopped short just by the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Ishak returned to his home state to attend medical school at the University of Oklahoma. While in school, he oversaw clinical volunteering efforts in Oklahoma City and led efforts to increase healthcare access for new refugees arriving from Afghanistan. Ishak also had the opportunity to serve as a board member for American Muslim Health Professionals, a national professional organization, for two years. After finishing medical school, Ishak chose to return to St. Louis and complete his training in the city he has grown so fond of. In his free time, Ishak enjoys soccer, cheering on St. Louis sports teams, and playing chess.
